The problem
Paper business cards go out of date and get thrown away. Most “smart” cards fix that with a web dashboard nobody enjoys using, and stop at the link.
I wanted the card to be the start of a proper product: set up in seconds on a phone, shareable without the card, and still useful when the card is in a drawer.
What I built
- iPhone app: activate a card by tapping it, edit your profile, preview what people see, and share by tap, QR code or link.
- Apple Wallet pass: your card in Wallet with a scannable QR code, so you can share it with no card at all.
- Home Screen widgets: your card and QR code one glance away.
- Lost card mode: report a card lost from the app.
- Live profile pages: open in any phone’s browser, iPhone or Android, with one tap to save the contact.
- Shop: the cards themselves are sold on Shopify.
How it fits together
The card stores only a link. Everything else lives in the cloud, so a profile change shows up on every card, pass and widget immediately.
Timeline
Version 1.0 went live on the App Store on 6 August 2026. Since then it has had several updates, adding Home Screen widgets, Wallet passes and support for new card models. A security update is in progress.
What I learned
- Apple review is about detail. Small things in the listing and the app’s wording matter as much as the code. I now plan submission into the timeline from day one.
- Launching is the start. Updates, OS changes and security patches are ongoing work, and clients should budget for them.
- Design sells the hardware. The app experience is what makes the card feel worth paying for.
